BMW x5 4X4 for SaleWhen it was clear that the popularity of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) was more than a mere fad, several respected car makers got in on the act. Probably the most prestigious luxury car maker to offer up an SUV was BMW. In 1999, they introduced the BMW X5, which was also known as Four-by-Four in the UK. This is due to the fact that the vehicle features all-wheel drive and also that SUVs have never really caught on in Europe. Who bought the BMW x5 4x4 ? The car was popular with Americans that wanted a vehicle that offered the same seating capacity as an SUV, but that handled like a sports car and got good gas mileage. For as many SUV owners will freely admit, there is nothing particularly sporty about huge trucks you need a step ladder to get into. Again, the term SUV is really nothing more than a marketing ploy to get people to see a product in a different light. Fact is SUVs are trucks, pure and simple. But the BMW X5 toes the line between a truck and a sports car. For starters, it handles like a car and has acceleration speeds that put every truck or SUV on the planet to shame. The BMW X5 can go from 0-60 MPH in 8.1 seconds. That is several seconds faster than the competition. The vehicle also gets better gas mileage than most cars. And compared with SUVs? Well, we’ve all heard the stories… that the average SUV only gets 15 miles to the gallon. Obviously, that is woeful. But the X5 gets a very respectable 34 MPG, and the diesel model gets an impressive 39 MPG. What are the drawbacks? Well, in spite of the fact that it markets itself as a sport utility vehicle, the X5 is still a BMW, and it costs what you would expect a BMW to cost. In fact, the X5 is one of the most expensive vehicles the company offers for sale. |
