Jaguar Prestige Cars: A History

Like many of the early carmakers, Jaguar Cars Ltd., didn’t start out as an automobile manufacturer, rather, they focused on motorcycles and motorcycle accessories. In fact, the company originally produced motorcycle sidecars. They were christened Swallow Sidecars in 1922 when the company was founded in Coventry, England.

In spite of some early success, it was clear the future of transportation belonged to the motorcar, so the company quickly began producing passenger cars. And since they no longer manufactured sidecars, they changed their name to the simple and memorable Jaguar shortly after World War Two.

The company changed hands several times over the next few decades, but the quality of their automobiles never waned. In fact, jaguar prestige cars were often included on lists of the most sought after and luxurious sports cars on the planet. The British car consistently goes head to head with German market leaders BMW and Mercedes Benz.

In 1989, the company was sold to Ford Motor Company and when that company encountered financial difficulties it was sold to an Indian company, Tata Motor Ltd, in 2008. However, the secret to the brand's continued appeal may be that they still make their cars at plants in Coventry, England where the company was founded.

Since Jaguars have always been a limited luxury brand, finding one at a reasonable price can be an adventure. The place to start is on the internet where it may be possible to locate a pre-owned Jaguar that is being offered by a private seller. If you choose to purchase a Jaguar through a dealership, you should expect to pay a slight premium for top models.
